Just Before Dawn (1981)

In the Oregon mountains, a pair of hunters encounter a machete-wielding killer in an abandoned church. Meanwhile, five campers arrive to examine some property one of them has inherited but are warned by the forest ranger not to venture forth. Soon after they set up camp, they begin hearing strange noises, encounter a mysterious singing girl and start disappearing one by one.

One of my favorite backwoods terror flicks of all time, JUST BEFORE DAWN even rivals TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE in my opinion. Solid acting, scenic, yet creepy locations, and a pair of inbred hillbilly twins that look like they could have been birthed by giant, man-eating hogs. Scary stuff...and that creepy whistle playing out during the haunting score is enough to send chills from head to toe. George Kennedy is great as the eccentric forest ranger - "Those mountains can't read, son". See this or SKIDOOT!;)

A 1980 Slasher movie that has Drive-In written all over it. 5 young people take a camper into the mountains of California only to stumble upon a man running thru the woods claiming his buddy has been murdered. Does this turn them back, nope, even after park ranger George Kennedy tells them not to go up on the mountain, but one of the young people hold a deed to the property and he is going. So begins a want to be Jason running around the mountain killing people. Some beautiful scenes of 2 beautiful women of the 1980 era, Jamie Rose who we see topless shots of while in the lake and a got more beautiful as she grew older Deborah Benson. Its not the best slasher movie, might have been top notch in 1980 but I can only give it a 3 star rating today.

Go now and find this 1980 gem. The first time I saw this it scared the crap out of me. It did for Camping what Psycho did for showers. The whistling really gets to you. I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!

Before the shitstorm that was Wrong Turn there was this creepy little feature..it's all about atmosphere something the Wrong Turn films and everything like them forget to add.. I think 'super reviwer' John M should shut the fuck up before down rating a great movie like this.

Made in the "Slasher" era, this entry comes off as one of the better ones. Beautifully shot and exteremly eerie. Unlike other Slasher films of the time, the film focuses heavily on Suspense and atmosphere rather than gursome violence.
