Between his tax problems and his legal battle with his wife for the custody of his daughter, these are hard times for the action movie star who finds that even Steven Seagal has pinched a role from him! Absolutely brilliant movie, funny and touching, and just all around brilliant. Anyone who watches this and doesn't have a new found respect and admiration for the man is an idiot. To think of all the doors this must have opened for Van Damme is wonderful. He turned down a role in Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables alongside Sly, Jet Li, Mickey Rourke, Jason Statham... wow he must have something big he's working on instead... yeah... the straight-to-DVD Universal Soldier 3. :P

A well made jean claude van damme film(how many times can you say that). This is probally hes best perfomrance of all time and one of the best films of 08(which was a bad year for movies). tfunny and at times very dramatic. this would also go as a good double feature with "My Name is Bruce" cause its a simliar concept. recommend to all jcvd fans and ones that sren't fans alike. really a must see. Van Damme DID deserve an oscar

I know you don't believe me, but this film is a HOME-RUN. Its so fucking good that it will just blindside you every 20 minutes or so. He could have SERIOUSLY been considered for an oscar. See this movie.

This shouldn't work in any level but does. Crossing over into "reality" rarely goes right on the big screen and breaking the fourth wall normally only works well with comedy (Ferris Bueller and Murphy's "look" in Trading Places springing to mind). Van Damme puts in a great performance and actually acts. Extra star for great use of Baby Huey's "Hard Times" as intro music.

This really is one of the best performances I have ever seen. I don't know if that has anything to do with watching this man's action flicks as a child, but I know what I saw. It is simply unbelievable. It is shocking. Van Damme gives us his absolute everything. Mabrouk El Mechri creates a stunning tapestry of Van Damme's personal life, and Jean-Claude follows up with humility and charm that is overwhelming. He leaves you emotionally torn, and completely shocked. It's got it's own moments of kick-ass action, a nod to the hard-core fans who will be beyond appreciative of this venture. The highlight of the film is the monologue. His moment. He draws you in, emotionally, he reveals that special brilliance that he has within him- his own personal Susan Boyle moment. To those that actually give a damn, and patiently and intently watch this film, Van Damme will break you.
