Dogtooth (2009)

Three teenagers are confined to an isolated country estate that could very well be on another planet. The trio spend their days listening to endless homemade tapes that teach them a whole new vocabulary. Any word that comes from beyond their family abode is instantly assigned a new meaning. Hence 'the sea' refers to a large armchair and 'zombies' are little yellow flowers. Having invented a brother whom they claim to have ostracized for his disobedience, the uber-controlling parents terrorize their offspring into submission.

5 Stars for being the most weirdest film, and good acting. But I cannot say I like it like it. It's just very weird, different n very surprising. From the beginning to the end, there are scenes I have to review n watch it again. Oh my god tho!!

Film 4 billed this as a black comedy, shown as part of Foster's Comedy Night. I suppose it could be funny, but you'd have to get past the all-pervading dread first. It really is the ultimate "feel bad" film, unlike anything I've seen, read or heard before. It has taken me about a month to watch, but that is more of a recommendation than a criticism.

Unclassifiable film. It's too abstract to be described accurately with our limited vocabulary. I'm actually quite surprised that it got an Oscar nomination. Not much happens in this film but it become so compelling and engaging. Metaphorically dark, DISTURBING, and one of the strangest I've ever seen, but I loved it for some reason! What does that say about me?! Oh, and I still can't get over the dance that the two sisters performed towards the end. Wow.
