Oh my lord this is a funny film. It just whacked me square on the funny bone. Funniest bits? It has to be Max Wall as the king, and his unlikely incompitent entourage. Along with the crumbling castle he steals the film.

Not a terrible effort - considering it was the 70s, as special effects were limited - but if you look at what Gilliam's done since, he has definitely grown as a filmmaker! Palin is OK as the lead, but nothing really happens, just a bit of bumbling and some mildly funny remarks. It reminded me too much of 'Willow' (not really a good thing!) and tries to infuse too much of 'Monty Python & the Holy Grail', rather than anything original.

I love Monty Python. I really liked Brother's Grimm and Brazil. However as much as I want to like Terry Gilliam I can't whole heartily. Jabberwocky is like a dull pain. It starts out fine and then just slowly builds up until the pain is just so annoying you want to hurt something. Granted this is his first official movie on his own so I really shouldn't be so critical. I just can't get into Gilliam and that's the only reason I didn't like this movie more.

Terry Gilliam is one of my favorite directors, third only to Wes Anderson and Ishiro Honda. MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL- co-directed with Terry Jones 10/10 My favorite movie of all. JABBERWOCKY 6.5/10 Not really good, but a worthy effort. Very funny, and even managed to shock me one or twice, which is hard these days. THE MEANING OF LIFE- co-directed with Terry Jones 8.5/10 THE CRIMSON PERMANENT ASSURANCE- short 9/10 BRAZIL 10/10 THE ADVENTURES OF BARON MUNCHAUSEN 9.5/10 TWELVE MONKEYS 9/10 Brad Pitt's character is one of my favorite performances of all time. FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS 8.5/10 My first non-Python Gilliam film.
