Nerdy Walter Paisley, a maladroit busboy at a beatnik café who doesn't fit in with the cool scene around him, attempts to woo his beautiful co-worker, Carla, by making a bust of her. When his klutziness results in the death of his landlady's cat, he panics and hides its body under a layer of plaster. But when Carla and her friends enthuse over the resulting artwork, Walter decides to create some bigger and more elaborate pieces using the same artistic process.

one of the best Roger Corman films ever ( that inculdes death race 2000). the plot line has a faint hint of being simmilar to the house of wax but that being said its very inovative. the writer Charles Griffith ( Corman main writer) plot is very clever walter a bus boy in a beatnick cafe is trying to be a sculpuler trys despratlty to sculpt with clay but fails misrably that is until he accidenlty kills a cat and covers it in clay. the owner of the cafe encorages him to sculpt something that realistic again. as luck would have it a undercover cop hassels walter of having narcotics in his posession so he kills him and cover him in clay. the film has a lot of good twists and turns but its let down by average acting in the case of walters portrayal in parts it felt like he was being both a campy fool and then a phsycopath at the same time. 6/10 its a very good roger corman film ( thankfuly its not as stupid as creature from the haunted sea).

This is a great film you can watch a couple times in a row. Dick Miller gives a wonderfully awkward, and funny performance that really drives the film and makes the character. I won't say much about it, being that it is a rather short movie, but you should deffinitely watch it. If you have netflix, at the time I am writing this it is on the play it now menu. So check it out.

Corman gives us an amusing little black comedy critique of the art world, featuring Dick Miller in his single starring role. It's fun to note that Miller does play a character with the same name in a few other films, allowing the character to find life in other forms. It's worth a look for sure, hell it's only an hour long, what else are you doing right now?
