Probably one of the most powerful films I have seen in the past couple of years. Borders on the edge of an art film in its presentation while begging you to listen to it's message.

You will acquire a new set of eyes and brain-fizzing optimism for life and the animated image. Like a punch to the gut? No... more a wrenching and slapping of the brain to rid it of boring live action limits and stale hollywood CGI.

How do you rate something like this? It has no real plot to speak of. Instead it's almost two hours of insanely beautiful, ugly, vivid, & stunning animation. The first half is truly exhilirating, particularly when you begin to piece together the opening five minute montage further into the flick. But the second half, despite have many wonderful visual flourishes, just drags too long. The espape from the Whale scene purposefully dragging until it's just excruciating! Still, a novel, inventive, & refreshing Anime film.

I really dislike Anime, but Studio 4Ì?C does an incredible job of transcending the doldrums of today';s animation industry. Mind Game is basically a beautiful homage to animation, utilizing dozens of techniques and styles. The end product is an epic, no-holds-barred adrenaline rush for the eyes. This is by far the best animated feature to come out of Japan. Ever.
