Possibly the most ambitious project by writer/director Don Hertzfeldt, It's Such A Beautiful Day focuses on an unexceptional middle-aged man who is slowly dying of a vaguely-defined brain disease. Stitched together from three short films with some new footage, the viewer is subjected to dark humor and existentialist hand-wringing as the mind of the protagonist steadily erodes. Simple animation, forceful sound editing, and a careful selection of music combine into a movie experience that's chilling, hilarious, and chillingly hilarious. This film left an impacting impression on me and I'm sure many others will feel the same way.

It's hard to explain why the movie was good, but it's even harder to explain how the movie made me feel. Like the film itself, it's not so much about words and explanation. Rather, it's about deriving thoughts and feeling from visual and auditory cues that we may never be able to explain with the English language.

Watching this was watching one of my greatest fears brought to life. This was more terrifying to me than any horror movie I've ever watched. And at the same time this was a beautiful and heartfelt look at memory loss and mental issues. The only real drawback was that the monotone narration was difficult to listen to.
