Most critics hated this film, but it is a flippin riot, check it out!

"hot fudge love, cherry-ripple kisses" This movie is hi-larious. Especially the opening third with Hoffman and Beatty writing songs. The critics vilified Ishtar when it came out, but they clearly just didn't get the joke.

It's a film that resists categorization, staking a claim on a weird, absurdist territory of its own. For that, in the maddeningly generic landscape of '80s multiplexes, it was crucified. Now it's celebrated. And rightfully so.

Hoffman and Beatty crawling around ad-libbing in the desert is hilarious. People were very unfair to this film which, as a comedy about the Middle East, is more politically incorrect and necessary than every.

"Telling the truth can be dangerous business...", but Ishtar is a great comedy. You just need to be smart enough to get the jokes.
