another fine movie from the philippines! (& made in the 1970s at that!)

What? This wasn't released in 2007; it was released in 1976. I demand someone to correct it right now as I don't know how to. I think I have a bizaare affection for revenge films, and revenge is even better when mixed with melodrama and set in the slums of the Philippines. Revenge hasn't tasted this so sweet especially you ruin your mother's life and kill her manipulative and gold-digging boyfriend at the same time. Lino Brocka, look at what has happened to the Philippine film industry today; it's mostly loads of Hollywood-like crap. Help us.

Insiang is a sensitively genuine delineation of the life in the slums. With metaphorical resonance, the heroine's strife mirrors that of every individual whose every action is dictated by his or her socioeconomic landscape.

Other than the 5+ minute really loud and annoying opening, this movie was pretty good! The story was crazy! I felt bad for insiang at times, then had no sympathy for her at all, back to feeling sorry. I hated all the background noise but it was shot in 76 and maybe they Edited the best they could. Or maybe they wanted all that excess awfulness, who knows. I liked the movie though.
