20th-Century-Fox's response to MGM's SAN FRANCISCO is a musical drama that ends in spectacular fashion with the Chicago Fire of 1871; Alice Brady won an Oscar playing against type.

Very good film from 1937 about a family that moves to Chicago in the 19th century and makes a dent on the city. A great cast, including Alice Brady in her Oscar winning role as the mother of the successful sons. Very exciting ending and very impressive, especially because it was made in '37. I'm glad I finally saw this.

The 20 minute fire sequence is remarkable considering it was made in the 1930s. Tyrone Power is a stunning lead, alongside Alice Faye and Don Ameche there is one solid cast here. Pure entertainment, I didn't watch it thinking it would be historically accurate or informing.

A great movie. It has all it need to let me still be in the sofa and enjoy: a swell romance story, a family looking for a new begining,a fight between brothers and the horrible Chicago-fire.
