Perhaps my least favourite Powell/Pressburger film, this is the tale of the capture and removal of a German general from Nazi-occupied Crete in WW2. The story was made to seem very pedestrian and predictable, I'm sure that as it's based on a true story, it wasn't in the least pedestrian at the time.

Wartime spy drama directed by Powell & Pressburger. Look out for a brief appearance by a young(ish) Christopher Lee.

Any impression of actuality or of sharp conflict is missing, the direction relying mainly on a coating of naive boisterous humour and the personalities of the leading players.

An interesting film based on a true event that also shows some of the events that took place on Crete during WW2. Watch out for David McCallum's screen debut and an early appearance by Christopher Lee!
