Exceptionally good, inspirational, and sentimental. With great performance and scores. Another fine Japanese movie. Yatsuko Matsuyuki is so outstanding. In case you didn't know, the film was also based on true story. Even the movie was completely easy to guess the ending or conclusion, the emotional aspect of the movie itself is remarkable. 10/10

Something about the cast and the simplicity of the storytelling made it all come straight to the heart. It avoided the cheesiness that plagues a lot of Japanese dramas these days. Makes me want to take up hula!

Classic underdog story, but the new setting and sport (Hula dancing) gave it that vital freshness.

Japanese girls from a coal mining town decide to become hula dancers. Based on a true story, this is a basically standard coal miner's daughter type story that can cross cultures as the character types are relatively universal.

Quite a discovery. I thought this would be another dull movie about dancing, but the setting in the 60's in that coal-mining town is quite nice. The photography is also good, and the actresses do a remarkable job.
