don't get me wrong, those stars are for Sam, the dog mentioned in the synopsis.

On TV only every 17 years, you'd better watch it or you'll miss out.

Simple but effective early John Wayne classic.

Aside from the films of Howard Hawks and John Ford, this is arguably John Wayne's best and most beloved Western

John Wayne is Hondo, a despatch rider who befriends a deserted rancher and her son, who are threatened by an Apache uprising. A shadow falls over the relationship when Hondo later kills her errant husband in self defence. A superior western, perhaps a little too low key to be a true classic, but very watchable. The side-plot involving Apache chief Vittorio is handled pretty sensitively for the time.
