I love this film! The performances by the little English girls are especially endearing. When their free-spirited mother takes them on a journey to Marrakech in the late 1960's. they innocently experience Moroccan atmosphere and culture. Favorite line spoken by Bea, "I don't need another adventure mum, I need to go to school, I need to learn things." Kate Winslet's first film following Titanic.

This was a good movie, granted low budget.

Another one of my favorite films. I think critics should give it another look (it took a few times for me). A bit slow in places, but the beautiful landscape and images mostly makes up for it. I think this is a great story about brokenness in the hippie era of "free love." She thought she was running away from convention, but it took a literal spiritual journey and the wisdom of her two little girls to figure out how broken commitments affects all of us. The acting is so natural in this film. It's a joy to watch Winslet and these two little girls.

I loved this film. I know plenty of my friends would hate it, but it struck a chord with me having been dragged around the world as a kid by our parents too.. the wild optimism, the unrealistic dreams, the passions, the feverous strangeness of a new land, the lostness in traveling, the abandonment of home and country, the understanding of a new culture and people, the vacant feeling of home in a strangers land.

The film's gradual slide into a darker vision of the casual selfishness and presumption that often lay at the heart of Westerners' mind-bending journeys to the East is subtle and quietly devastating.
