Italian social realism at its height with Francesco Rosi. Rod Steiger and Carlo Fermariello are brilliant in this movie. Piccioni's score is kind of goofy, but in a complementary way.

My 2nd film from Italian director Francesco Rosi. Not nearly as good as the near masterpiece Salvatore Giuliano, but I was somewhat expected that. Sometimes the film feels cold, but that's just me and the way Rosi decided to tell the story. Not a real flaw in the film, but it does hamper me from really liking it.

a tale of corruption that is only gripping in fleeting moments- and those moments owe a lot to Piccioni's score. it's also strange to hear Steiger overdubbed by someone who sounds nothing like him.

Wonderful black and white reality movie on the real estate racket in Naples in the 1960s, when investigative journalism was still possible in Italy (now it is way too risky). Rod Steiger gives one of his best performances.
