A minimalist effort (basically two actors and a green screen) that knocks you out with the terrific sense of the wonder of space and the fear and stress of survival in a hostile environment while loneliness and depression work you over. Bullock is extraordinary. A masterpiece.

This movie... first it's NOT about space, or science fiction, or any of that bullshit. There are no lazers, no klingons, no space marines coming in to kick ass --- the movie is a fantastically woven, beautifully filmed, tense, introspective metaphor for traumatic loss and recovery. Cuaron does a masterful job creating a piece of work that perfectly embodies the disorienting experience of loss, isolation, post traumatic shock and the long slow road to re-entry. Viewed through the lens of metaphorical art (which any great piece of art should be interpreted through) this movie ranks up there as one of the best ever made.

WOW! This film was clearly designed to be a different kind of experience, which makes it a groundbreaking work. It's one hell of a ride as a well-crafted experiment in radically empirical filmmaking. Unlike "Avatar", which was also visually stunning and an overall very sensual experience, this film also has some great storytelling and seems to very physically express the archetypal hero journey. Brilliantly done! Definitely raises the bar with it's unique texture delivering a power punch of an impact.
