The role of William is a perfect fit for Red West, a well-weathered member of Elvis Presley's Memphis Mafia who has served as a bodyguard as well as a stuntman and bit-part actor.

For such a heavy "japanese" topic it's quite light. Maybe too light. But the ending is spectacular.

"A film like this makes me wonder if we are coming to the end of the facile, snarky indie films. We live in desperate times. We are ready to respond to films that ask that question. How do you live in this world?" -R Ebert (Yeah, I know I over-quote him...but he really hit exactly why I loved this film) I really enjoyed this film. My heart overfloweth with love for Souleymane Sy Savane. While I did cry at some parts, I really wanted to bawl like a maniac at the end...but couldn't. I was just so stunned with emotion. This movie is so pure. No gimmicks, no glitzy tricks. The director whittled everything down to a realness, a heart. Towards the end I felt a fist tightly grip itself around my heart...and it didn't let go. Heart-breaking...beautiful.
