Bizarro comedy from Bertrand Blier, in which two petty criminals spend their time aimlessly trying to get laid and score enough money to get by on. Very chauvinistic and occasionally disturbing, it has enough WTF moments to keep the viewer involved. Worth a rental easily.

pour ceux qui aime ce réalisateur (Bertrand Blier), le film Les Côtelettes est aussi bon. Deux films à voir en français pour apprécier pleinement leur valeur

The film shifts between being repetitiously annoying to just plain dull as the characters become more relaxed and in touch with their sexuality. The only part that works is the Jeanne Moreau sequence.

Not exactly a favorite...but the movie has become part of my visual vocabulary. If you like Wes Anderson movies (I don't) you might like this. It is dark, idiosyncratic humor without the velvet gloves. And prepare yourself for some intense misogyny.

Don't listen to anybody French who tells you it's impossible to appreciate this movie if you're not. Blier's great gift is turning the everyday on its head: you find yourself and laughing uncontrollably at a rape, crying copiously at a wedding and suddenly finding your perceptions of what is and is not acceptable uncomfortably shifting...
