a thoroughly rivetting drama that leads you down one path at the beginning (you think it's going to be Brideshead Revisted - revisted) but instead takes a dark turn and becomes totally gripping. Excellent.... !!!

I thought this was a great movie. Not boring at all if one thinks back to the time this movie was cast. It had me researching England during WW2.

Extraordinary cast! It was shot very beautifully--the colors and the costumes were superb. But to me, it was one of those films that starts out really well and then transforms into quite a messy ordeal by the end. I'd still recommend it to those who enjoy the genre, though.

Slow start but couldn't stop watching. Compulsively brilliant. Highly recommend this film

What a shame. Starts out as a superior period drama akin to 39 steps and has elements of North by North West laden through it. The fact that it descends into confused, near farce must be laid at the director's door. Avoid this inglorious film!
