In early 1860s New York, Irish immigrant Amsterdam Vallon is released from prison and returns to the Five Points, seeking revenge against his father's killer, William Cutting, a powerful anti-immigrant gang leader. He knows that revenge can only be attained by infiltrating Cutting's inner circle. Vallon's journey becomes a fight for personal survival and to find a place for the Irish people.

Incerdible great work to put this movie 2gether evry1 needs to see it

This is a good movie that takes place during the Civil War, where gangs really did control New York and politicians were corrupted and people suffered. If there is one thing that director Martin Scorsese did it was capture that effect as well as the prejudices that the Irish as well as other people faced in the time. Also there is a good story of vengence where Amsterdam Vallon wants to kill William "Bill the Butcher" Cutting for killing his father. The story is moving, the plot is interesting to keep people into it and even though this didn't give Scorsese the Academy Award he was looking for it is still a great film. 10 out of 10.

I found This film captivating. It gave excellent insight into the way in which the proud City of New York was founded and built. It attempted topiant an historically accurate picture of what life was like in New York during the American Civil War which was so much more than a battle between the Confederate and the Union. It highlighted the reaction of 'New Yorkers' to the emancipation proclamation and to the increase of foreigners invading there beloved country. It was about honour, brotherhood and the pursuit of happiness be through corrupt means or legal channels. Not a film for everyone due to its historical context but if you can get past the dialect and gore you will witness one of the greatest historical pieces every made in my opinion. Thumbs up.
