With the Gyaos re-emerging, Gamera's ties to humanity have been severed with his bond to Asagi broken. Nagamine and Asagi investigate while an orphaned girl named Ayana discovers a new creature she names Iris. Nagamine and Asagi must reach Ayana before she takes her revenge on Gamera, who she blames for the death of her family.

The last of the nineties Gamera trilogy and it surpasses the second and lands slightly on par with the first. The idea of looking at the survivors of a past monster attack and having a new creature based on those feeling of revenge and hate is cool, but I had to view it twice just to make sure I knew what was going on. At times it never feels like it was explained in a manner that was kind of head scratching. And the monster battle at the end was very anti-climactic, almost grindhouse feel.

Best of all the Gamera movies. Great special effects, astounding plot, and one hell of a trailer. Gamera actually loses some limbs here and there, but we all know that the showa series wasn't any different. Great new look, and great new monster. All i can say is the best in the series.

The best giant monster movie to ever come out of Japan, and I include the original Gojira (Godzilla). The special effects are near flawless, the human performances beneficial, the writing and directing well done. I can't think of an American summer blockbuster in the last 10 years (with the exception of Batman Begins and Lord of the Rings) that put so much genuine thought into its story as this one did. See, this is what happens when you show PROPER respect to your source material. Gamera is the ultimate anti-hero, and in many ways is portrayed as the actual male lead of the film WITHOUT things becoming goofy. Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin take note: THIS is how you make a monster movie.

Another great Kaiju film, this time played totally straight, with some very realistic destuction scenes and characters. The plot's quite complicated, especially if you haven't seen the first two films, but a great end to a great trilogy of films. Well worth seeing.
