Another post war Sci-Fi classic dealing with Communist aggression yet, it came out in 1960 prior to the public awareness of Viet Nam. Question! Was this a warning of what is to come i Asia or a warning to stay out of Europe for WW III?

Giant Spider-Rat-Bat-Monkey. Four stars! Seriously though, the bit where it's basically minding its own business and one of the Mars astronauts hacks into its ankle with a machete and then shoots it in the eyes with lasers when it makes a fuss, is just hilarious. Its scream is absolutely massive. They should've given it subtitles. 'Arrrrhh! Jesus! You cunts! You utter fucking cunts! What the fuck?! Why?! Fucking why?!' And its little rod puppet hands covering its eyes. This film just puts me on the floor.

A b picture that does not take itself too seriously. Yes some of the sets and props are cheap but it's great fun. While exploring Mars one of the crew was attacked by a carnivorous plant. A variety of events occur in the attempt to return to earth, including monsters that attempt to kill the crew, Great giant Bat spider! However When all of the data brought back by the expedition is examined, the mission scientists find a recorded message. An alien voice announces that the crew were allowed to leave so they can deliver a message to Earth. The Martians are watching human development and believe its technology has outpaced cultural advancement. They warn humanity to never return to Mars or Earth will be destroyed in retaliation.Great fun

Despite a decent cast, this 50s entry was poorly written and is neither exciting, suspenseful or that interesting. The red filter used on the camera lens while exploring on Mars was unique, but that alone does not compensate for this cheesy effort.
