Sonatine (1993)

Murakawa, an aging Tokyo yakuza tiring of gangster life, is sent by his boss to Okinawa along with a few of his henchmen to help end a gang war, supposedly as mediators between two warring clans. He finds that the dispute between the clans is insignificant and whilst wondering why he was sent to Okinawa at all, his group is attacked in an ambush. The survivors flee and make a decision to lay low at the beach while they await further instructions.

After having been set up by their boss, a group of yakuza hang out in a cabin by the beach. They spend their time playing silly games and just goofing around. The humour, much like the violence, is throw-away and underplayed. Probably very much an acquired taste but I find Kitano Takeshi hilarious. I think this might be my favourite movie of his.

A-MAZ-ING!!! my all time favorite Beat Takeshi movie ever. every one should see this, and if you don't, i will track you down and slurp you guts though your intestines!! i can't beleive this database has no picture for it.
