A would-be but not-actually-inspiring movie about a landmark LGBT rights case that loses sight of the flesh and blood people at its heart, gets bogged down in tedious municipal politics and fails to find a way to compellingly dramatize an important story.

I don't understand the bad reviews for this movie at all. One of the most moving and inspiring films I have seen. A real tearjerker, with Steve Carell adding some needed humor.

There wasn't much screen time spent on making the characters relatable, since so much time was spent on how unjustly they were treated. The events depicted in this movie are important, but the hero of the movie is a straight man. This is similar to "The Help" wherein the movie makes a young white girl to be the hero, rather than the middle aged, black maids.
