Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla (1974)

An Okinawan prophecy that foretells the destruction of the Earth is seeming fulfilled when Godzilla emerges to return to his destructive roots. But not all is what it seems after Godzilla breaks his ally Anguirus's jaw. Matters are further complicated when a second Godzilla emerges, revealing the doppelgänger as a mechanical weapon.

Another entry in the perpetually long-lived and enjoyable Godzilla movie saga, again brought to us by those fine folks at Japan's Toho Studios. In this outing, the Big G must contend with his equally-formidable robotic twin, Mecha-Godzilla (Who would later appear countless times-), a bad-tempered automaton that shoots rays and laser beams out of darn-near every orifice, sponsored by surly, ape-like aliens (In some really shoddy, flea-bitten monkey-masks!) Hell-bent on dominating Earth (A favorite theme repeatedly used throughout the Big Lizard's many adventures-). Once Godzy is assisted in the battle by the comically-kinetic and benign King Caesar, a gigantic Lion-Dog concoction (Actually based on the "Shisa", a beloved deity from Japanese foklore-), the s**t really hits the fan in one of the most humorously-orchestrated and frantically-paced brouhahas in the whole of the Godzilla film canon. Loads of mindless fun.

Best Godzilla movie. Hands down. It has an interesting plot for the humans as it does for Godzilla. Except I don't know why the aliens didn't just build a giant flying box...

Another excellent entry in the Godzilla series, not to mention a terrific foe in Mechagodzilla, who at first appears as another doppelganger Godzilla that is putting an ass-whooping on Godzilla until he burns all of the flesh away to reveal a mechanical force that may be Godzilla's toughest foe yet. Lots of cool fights and fun. Love this film.

Brilliant film, apart from the song section at the end. Why don't they just shout at King Seesar to wake him up. Don't even ask about the dubbing. Good film, though!

A bit more on the adventure side with the whole Seesar-cult and all that - gotta love the oldschoold Mecha-G, rocket fingers and rainbow-beam never get old :)
