An honest look at relationships and a wonderful exploration of human behavior

As Roger Ebert would say, I hated, hated, HATED this movie. It had the potential to have something really poignant to say and show some interesting character development. (After all, the movie IS about a relationship.) But instead, it takes one weird turn after another, with all the writing, directing and production quality of a high school play. Very disappointing...

The thing is, these chatty, pedantic, annoying characters are simply not interesting enough to follow for five minutes, let alone over two hours.

The hero remains such an exhibitionistically cocky, walled-off jerk that Flannel Pajamas' glib conversational ''candor'' yields no mystery. And that's a problem in two hours of talk.

There's something alluring about the simple, truthful portrayal of the doomed marriage in this movie. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who wants a simple sappy romance, though, because that's not what it is. It's more of a statement on the tragedy of love.
