In the arctic, as Saiva is being born, a shaman declares that she is evil and will bring harm to all who become involved with her. Saiva is cast out of her tribe of herders and grows up to live a nomadic existence with Anja, a young woman she adopts as an infant. Then Loki, an injured and starving soldier, stumbles into their isolated lives. The women nurse him back to health, but treachery, violence and doom await them all.

Nice Drama but I think they just took us into the mind of a very disturbed and crazy woman! For all her best intentions, what she did in the long run was absolutely unforgivable! Can a sense of loss and betrayal really push someone over the edge like that? Good acting by the cast but it would have been nice if night didn't turn into day so quickly!!! Briefly, this is what happened: A dark epic tale set in the harsh beauty of the Arctic where SAIVA and ANJA struggle to survive on the frozen wastes. They are forced further North to escape Soldiers taking over their homeland and settle on a desolate island. One day a figure, LOKI, appears on the ice and collapses, close to death. Despite her fears Saiva saves him. When Loki recovers, Saiva and Anja compete for his attention. A passionate relationship forms between Anja and Loki which leaves Saiva isolated. When the lovers plan to leave for a new life together, a desperate Saiva acts with terrifying and tragic consequences.

Book was better than the movie.... The movie is beutifully shot and rendered, but the script is sooooo boring that I almost fell asleep.... Decent ending though... Sean Bean, Michelle Krusiec, and Michelle Yeoh are alright in this film and at least it looks good, but I cannot recommend it because of the pacing, dialogue, and the plot.....

After his Hollywood misstep "The Return", "Far North" finds Kapadia back on the path he should be following: it's a distinctive, quasi-mythic yarn that mostly forsakes dialogue for striking sights and telling, atmospheric sounds. Not all the casting works: while Bean looks authentically battered by the freezing Arctic winds - living in Sheffield will do that to a guy - he's probably just a bit too big a name for the part, a concession to producers' demands, and Krusiec, for the most part, resembles a super-cute Asian-American princess who's been sent north to work on her triple axles. It's the combination of large-scale spectacle and storytelling that holds you, with its flurries of harsh, unexpected violence, at least one of which results in the freakiest screen sex scene since "The Devil's Advocate".
