much better than the 1973 Exocist due to virtual effects of modern technologies

I hadn't been this freaked out from watching a movie in ages. Truly terrifying film that brought back memories of the original.

I went in pessimistically thinking what a terrible idea it was to make sequels or prequels of the greatest horror film ever and how it should stand alone untainted and pristine. I was, however pleasantly surprised, to find this was a good movie that was worthy of its name. It is a well-written precursor that is linked to the Exorcist by telling the older of the two priests (Father Merrin) first encounter with possession and exorcisms. I was relieved to see that the movie that does not give away anything and was strong enough to stand on its own. Father Merrin is a good character with an interesting story and he has an intense demon to fight to make it exciting. It is not as scary as the original Exorcist film, but then again no other movie is. I was happily surprised how good it was and I will be watching this one again.

Good solid horror movie, loads of jumps and scares and better than Dominion which was good but not really a horror. Good to see Merrions journey to the original movie. Some disturbing moments and a great soundtrack and score. Great direction and camera work. The special effects are ok and do drag it back a bit but he shock, gore and story keep this movie gripping and on message. This is the best of the two prequels.

I worked on it, so I am biased. I did feel that it touched on a number of points linking it to the Exorcist series. Bottom line, I do feel it is an improvment over the the previous version... You know the one I mean!
