Empire of the Sun (1987)

Jamie Graham, a privileged English boy, is living in Shanghai when the Japanese invade and force all foreigners into prison camps. Jamie is captured with an American sailor, who looks out for him while they are in the camp together. Even though he is separated from his parents and in a hostile environment, Jamie maintains his dignity and youthful spirit, providing a beacon of hope for the others held captive with him.

A very powerful movie in which Bale gives an indication of the actor he would become, and still is. It's war seen through the eyes of a child - whose forced to grow up fast. It's beautifully shot, gritty and will probably haunt you after watching as we see that humans can become monsters when comes to survival and war there are no sides.

If you like Christian Bale at all, you must see this movie. Even though he was only 13 at the time, and it was his first movie, he completely nailed it. The story is definitely a tear jerker. Speilburg is a genius. SEE IT.

I LOOOVE this movie! It affected me so much. Christian Bale is AMAZING! *as usual* I mean he was only 13 years old when he was in this movie. He is one of the most talented actors! Who would have thought that that little boy would grow up to become freakin' BATMAN?!

If you have the patience to enjoy this movie, it is mesmerizing. The story, the acting, the directing, the cinematography. It is still hard to imagine this is Christian Bale.
