Empire of the Ants (1977)

A Florida real estate developer and her captain lure investors to a property in the Everglades called Dreamland Shores, under false pretenses that the swampland will soon be developed. After the group arrives on a small island, they find it has been overrun by giant mutated ants, brought on by the dumping of toxic waste in the area.

There's a fun turn of events in the latter half that spices things up but what precedes it is an hour of giant ants (horribly green-screening or shaky-camed prosthetics) screeching and terrorizing bad actors.

Cheap special effects and nonexistent horror in a 'horror' flick make for one boring waste of celluloid.

Not a very good big bug movie. Them is the best big ant movie out there. They had giant prosthetic insects in that one and although they look fake by todays standards the movie still works. Watch this one, and I crap you not, they hold an ant farm over the lens or superimpose one over the scene with people. You can see the ants trying to walk up the transparent side. This movie is something about ants trying to turn humans into workers for their hive or something. Not htat good at all.
