This is not a movie about war, but a movie about making peace. It offers a great insight into a nation which is traditionally seen as the enemy. Note: To enjoy it, you will need to watch with an open mind.

However turgid the storytelling, "Emperor" makes its historic points about a widely unknown 1945 wartime episode that played out in U.S occupied Japan after its surrender.

Wasn't bad it was rather interesting. Looking at any part of history is pretty amazing. It's worth a watch.

I was interested in this film because of the Japanese history. Though I think the Emperor had more to do with authorising attacks against different countries. What is not really known amongst non-Australian's is that Australia was also attacked 2 months after Pearl Harbour. It was obviously in the best interest not to trial the Emperor of war crimes, since he had a devoted following of Japanese civilians and this would've caused a massacre. With the American occupation of Japan, this made Japan become very Westernised.

As is the case with most of the elements in Emperor, the cliches are relatively few and spaced apart, and the tearjerking and profound moments are authentic and well-earned.
