It's an entertaining history lesson with an Oscar-caliber performance by Matthew Fox and a riveting plot!

Tommy Lee Jones was really weird in this ...but over all it was pretty fascinating

Am really surprised this movie didn't get more favorable reviews. As a Filipina who knows her World War II history, it was fascinating to see this period of time (supposedly the 10 days MacArthur gave General Feller to investigate the Emperor's culpability in World War II) dramatized. Every single actor, you could see, was fully vested in their roles. OK, so maybe the love story was a bit contrived. I found it moving, what can I say?

Wasn't bad it was rather interesting. Looking at any part of history is pretty amazing. It's worth a watch.

This wouldn't be the first historical film to play fast and furious with the personal detail of lives of the main historical figures. Ok, so the romance between general bonner and Aya probably didn't happen, but it took away from some of the tension of the main question of the film....what to do about Emperor Hirohito after Japan's surrender in WW2....and the broader question of how to manage rebuilding and integrating into the post war world an ancient and proud culture. It wasn't perfect, but I don't regret watching it. But then, again, I'm a history nut!
