Dr. Who and the Daleks (1965)

Scientist Doctor Who accidentally activates his new invention, the Tardis, a time machine disguised as a police telephone box. Who, his two granddaughters Barbara and Susan, and Barbara's boyfriend Ian are transported through time and space to the planet Skaro, where a peaceful race of Thals are under threat of nuclear attack from the planet's other inhabitants: the robotic mutant Daleks.

I thought this was the better of the two dalek films.

In real terms this film was a hit in the 60's due to powerful effects strong cast and the daleks. but today it's a slow story with simple plots, ok special effects and a total seperation from the timeline of the who.

This big-screen version of Doctor Who isn't the real McCoy (so to speak), but judged on its own merits, it's a perfectly decent slice of family entertainment. I love Cushing's portrayal of the Doctor (he's actually CALLED "Dr Who", as opposed to "the Doctor") as just a dotty grandfather (a similar character to the one he later played in At The Earth's Core) ...I don't think he's even supposed to be Gallifreyan in this. Roy Castle plays a bit of a fuckwit, who may or may not annoy the piss out of you (although for me, a child of the '70s, Roy Castle is a legend). Hilariously, the big, bad, menacing Daleks decorate their control room with lava lamps! (How quaint.) Enjoyable sci-fi adventure from Amicus Films. No sonic-screwdrivers in this, y'know!

Non-canonical big screen version of Dr. Who. This is essentially a remake of the original story that introduced the Daleks on the series. There are many differences, most notably that the title character is not a time lord, just a crackpot old inventor. Ultimately, the original TV version is better, but this is still worth a look.
