Dolores Claiborne (1995)

Dolores Claiborne was accused of killing her abusive husband twenty years ago, but the court's findings were inconclusive and she was allowed to walk free. Now she has been accused of killing her employer, Vera Donovan, and this time there is a witness who can place her at the scene of the crime. Things look bad for Dolores when her daughter Selena, a successful Manhattan magazine writer, returns to cover the story.

very well done. i expect the book to be much better, but i can tell that it was a very good adaptation. the style of stephen king didn't seem to be touched by the director/screenwriter. kathy bates has always been one of my favourites.

Second to Misery as the best SK adaptation ever. The mood and atmosphere of this film is fantastic, there's no doubting Kathy Bates is great actress who just "is" Dolores. Also Judy Parfitt is excellent as Vera Donovan.

Far and away the best Steven King film ever made. You will know the term Grand High Poobah of Upper Buttcrack, and use it frequently after seeing this. Creepy, thoughtful and just as good on repeated viewings.
