In many ways a precurser to Nashville, Magnolia and Short Cuts. An A-list ensamble cast with interweaving storylines, not all happy. The simplistic look of B&W is beautiful. And did I mention Jean Harlow? HELLO!

Standard melodrama. Not sure why this is such a classic. Aside from some clever lines (especially the final line!), this film is pretty stage-bound stuff. Watching a bunch of rich people going on about their supposed difficulties doesn't make for much in the way of entertainment.

I received this movie as part of a box set of "Classic Comedies" and I disagree because it wasn't very funny except for Marie Dressler and Jean Harlow at the end and a little bit with Billie Burke's cousins the Loomis'.

Superb acting, screenplay and direction combining to create an unforgettable and now one of my all time favourite movies, dinner at eight. I love a movie where the character's lives intersect and haven't seen one do it so well as this film. Set against the backdrop of the great depression; socialites attempting to hold on to the lives they once led, along with some trying to become part of that lifestyle (Jean Harlow in an amazing performance), actors beyond their prime, lovers with secret affairs... this is a melting pot of interesting story lines. Considering it was made in 1934 it's still a wonderful piece of cinema; a lesson for filmmakers today that it's not only about how a movie looks.

De lo mejor de George Cukor, con un interesantisimo reparto...
