Eight Legged Freaks (2002)

The residents of a rural mining town discover that an unfortunate chemical spill has caused hundreds of little spiders to mutate overnight to the size of SUVs. It's then up to mining engineer Chris McCormack and Sheriff Sam Parker to mobilize an eclectic group of townspeople, including the Sheriff's young son, Mike, her daughter, Ashley, and paranoid radio announcer Harlan, into battle against the bloodthirsty eight-legged beasts.

As much as I loathe, detest, and am scared of bugs this movie had me in tears from laughing so hard....kudos to David Arquette...

This is a stupid movie, but that's the point of it. A classical B - movie twist (giant spiders attacking the small american city) with cheap humor, but you know what? It works... this is really a funny movie, so hilarious just watching small spiders walking around and smilling while killing people and destroying the houses. Funny!

The genre of "man vs. giant bug" is a hard one to pull off seriously. Fortunatley. "Eight Legged Freaks" doesn't. It's more or less a parody of the giant bug moves of the fiffties, playing on all of the absurdidies. The spiders appear pretty realisitc (apart from their vocalizations) considering it's a B-movie. An underappreciated film not to be missed!
