A reasonably well made thriller with lots of snow and darkness. The plot was a bit derivative, and the outcome not unpredictable, but well filmed with a good scary atmosphere about it. Nice location shooting and sets.

For me this film works until the final 10 minutes were it descends into an implausible maelstrom of madness. If you decide to watch this, maybe take the ending with a grain of salt. This way you might get more enjoyment from the experience.

Outstanding acting by Robin Williams. I have yet to see a bad performance from him. The poetic aspects of this film are to be overlooked by many. Incredibly well written and acted, not to many cliches and it's not as cheesy as you would expect. The ending science was powerful and incredibly well done and poetic. I loved this film a lot and may I point out how much they made you hate Neils parents? That takes skill to make you hate a man who doesn't even exist so much. Touché Dead poets society.

Director Arthur Penn uses every trick in the horror book to pull this one off, but nothing really works, including his accent on scary noises. Everything is forced, contrived, and not too neatly lifted from other classic doppelganger films.
