Volcanologist Harry Dalton comes to the sleepy town of Dante's Peak to investigate the recent rumblings of the dormant volcano the burg is named for. Before long, his worst fears are realized when a massive eruption hits, and immediately, Harry, the mayor and the townspeople find themselves fighting for their lives amid a catastrophic nightmare.

Saw this on the airplane had me on the edge of my seat really good movie with amazing visuals and heart stopping action and it doesn't leave out the drama. got to go and buy this one on dvd to watch it again.

After losing his girlfriend in an erupting volcano in Columbia Harry Dalton goes on vacation and fours years later he gets sent to Dante's Peak to check it out. He discovers the volcano is active and ready to blow and tries to alert the town. He forms a relationship with the mayer and when the volcano explodes the mayor who is greatly played by Linda Hamilton, him and her kids are on the race to survive. Pierce Brosnan is awesome in this movie. Linda Hamilton who we don't hardly ever see anymore was great. The special effects will literally blow you away with amazement. Your adrenaline will be pumping the whole time you are watching. This movie is superb. A must see if you have not already.

Nature can be bad news... this film makes the case. Pierce Brosnon is unpredictably good in this role as a geologist, of all things. He is not the superman Bond but just a smart geologist who gets his boss contradicting him with the townspeople of Dante, somewhere in the northwest US. There are a few escape scenes from the volcanic eruption that strain crediblity, but if you allow for this, you can continue to watch this to the end. Well shot, acted and human conflict oriented. If you have ever been threatened by things beyond your control, watch this movie. Volcanic activity in a small town makes for economic bad news, but even the scientists disagree as this volcano simmers, waiting to erupt. The two dead lovers in a hot tub should have awakened the town, but naturally, it didn't. If it had, we wouldn't have had a movie, would we? I dismissed this film at the beginning just on its write up, don't you do the same. Worth the time, big time.
