Reminds me of scary movies of old that didn't depend upon jarring sound effects and the bad guy jumping out of the shadow at you to scare you. Still scary, but done through just making really tense scenes.

amazing, beautiful and haunting sets, light and costumes, cg's, and marvelous chemistry between the characters. The film is very sensual and mysterious.

Beautifully made, this is the epitome of Del Toro's oeuvre. He has such a gift for cinematography and stunning visuals. The film is an homage to the Victorian era gothic love stories. Well-acted, especially by Jessica Chastain, but the story is truly told in the house. A must see, especially in IMAX, to truly appreciate the beauty.
