A gorgeous looking gothic romance. The acting is great, the story is interesting, the sets and costumes are beautiful, and the perfect use of practical effects and CGI make this one of the best movies of the year, even though it is not for everyone. One of the best movies of Del Toro.

I haven't been this gripped the whole way through a movie for ages. Sure, some parts were predictable but the acting, the characters, the costumes and the sets were all so wonderfully done. It was creepy without being too much, the same goes for its gore factor. I was honestly just really interested in the story right from the beginning and I haven't enjoyed a film this much for so long.
