A strangely alluring b-movie horror, which although contains very little gore remains a good Hammer production. Is also loosely based on real events.

Ingrid Pitt is great in this and 'The Vampire Lovers' as Hammer turned to lesbianism. Definitely my favourite skirt-lifter!

Ingrid Pitt was the definition of sexy in this Hammer production based on the Blood Countess of Hungary Elizabeth Bathory. The story is simple, a bitter older widow(Pitt)gets blood on her by accident from her servant, it is revealed to give her a youthful appearence. The need to maintain that beauty requires virgin blood. The movie kept me entertained throughout and it was never boring. The costumes and set pieces were excellent. Pitt was wonderful in this role, the supporting players were fine in their respected roles. The ending may have not been this best ending but overall this is a pretty good film.

If you can excuse the liberties taken with the story of Elizabeth Bathory, the Blood Countess, this is a great little Hammer and probably better than you've heard. Ingrid Pitt discovers bathing in the blood of virgins restores her youth (temporarily) and pursues a romance with a younger man by pretending to be her own daughter. Things get complicated fast. Ingrid Pitt really throws herself into this picture and it shows. Well worth a watch.
