Dracula A.D. 1972 (1972)

Set in London in the early 1970's, supposedly for teen thrills, Johnny organises a black magic ceremony in a desolate churchyard. The culmination of the ritual, however, is the rejuvenation of Dracula from shrivelled remains. Johnny, Dracula' s disciple, lures victims to the deserted graveyard for his master's pleasure and one of the victims delivered is Jessica Van Helsing. Descended from the Van Helsing line of vampire hunters her grandfather, equipped with all the devices to snare and destroy the Count, confronts his arch enemy in the age-old battle between good and evil.

Enjoyable combo of classic Hammer horror with early 70s mod. It's nice to see Peter Cushing back as Van Helsing, and Caroline Munro is sexy as she willingly gives herself over to Dracula.

In the sixth Hammer Dracula film, the franchise is moved ahead a century to the then present time. Between the dubious premise, the annoying "modern" characters and dialogue and the exasperating hip score, Dracula A.D. 1972 could have been a failed and forgettable movie - if it wasn't for one certain detail: Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee are effing AWESOME in this, more than making up for other weaknesses. The low point of the series, perhaps, but among such great films it really isn't saying much.

Hammer's interesting kitsch 70s Dracula update with Johnny Alucard (there's a clue) in swinging London. I believe there's some music from BBC Radiophonic Workshop side project "White noise" - Black Mass... spooky.
