When a renowned architecture scholar falls suddenly ill during a speaking tour, his son Jin finds himself stranded in Columbus, Indiana - a small Midwestern city celebrated for its many significant modernist buildings. The indie cinema has gained another masterful director and this is right on the top of my choices for 2017. I stumbled onto this film by mistake but found the critical acclaim not an easy thing to ignore. The film is wonderfully shot with a filmmaker beginning his career with something most studio filmmakers could only dream to make. The film never betrays the characters with a forced storyline that didn't fit, it's just a true film with interesting characters attempting to discover themselves. I'm happy to say this is one of the best films of 2017 in my books. 15/01/2018.

My daughters and i are from columbus we went to see this last night and we LOVED IT !!!!

An outwardly chilly, resolutely static film that nevertheless finds poignancy in the most surprising places, Kogonada’s directorial debut does a couple of important things so well that I can’t help but forgive the things it doesn’t.

From the opening moments, and scene after scene, Columbus is an elegant, visual delight. As the main and secondary characters slowly come into focus, the story line becomes a richly subtle and compelling meditation on the bafflements of friendship and family relationships. This film is not to be missed, and there is good reason to see it several times for sure.
