Citizen X (1995)

Based on the true story of a Russian serial killer who, over many years, claimed victim to over 50 people. His victims were mostly under the age of 17. In what was then a communists state, the police investigations were hampered by bureaucracy, incompetence and those in power. The story is told from the viewpoint of the detective in charge of the case.

Excellent movie, has staying power, I have the DVD and never tire of it. The book it's taken from is an excellent read, too bad they didn't do a mini series, the book deserved it.

It's very disturbing because the serial killer kills young people only. It's base on a true story about a a man who needs to find a Russian serial killer. The actors were great in this movie. It is much better than I expected it to be. It's a must see.

I thoroughly recommend this film. I came accross it by chance and have not really seen it anywhere again. The film is a chilling thriller, with some great performances notwithstanding the great Donald Sutherland...

Just saw this movie and even though it is a bit slow the story kept me interested all the way through. I dig Donald Sutherland movies and he and Stephen Rea are great to watch in this one. Based on a true story makes it that much better!

Set in the 1980's USSR and based on the murders of Ukrainian serial killer Andrei Chikatilo, Citizen X is based on the true life events of Soviet Russia's most prolific drygulcher. Don't let the age of the film fool you, it is with out a doubt the finest tale of the pursuit of a psychopath that I have ever seen and will keep you glued to the screen as it very slowly (and very masterfully) dials up the tension and your investment in the characters at the same time. Stephen Rea and his supporting cast bring a bitter time back to life with gripping effect and rightly deserve high praise for their portrayals. Highly recommended.
