Chronically agoraphobic since the day his wife was murdered, Tommy Cowley finds himself terrorized by a gang of syringe-wielding feral children, who are intent on taking his baby daughter. [Aneurin Barnard] gives one of the most compelling and powerful performances I've seen this year.

For someone like me who has seen a lot of horror movies, CITADEL impressed me. It was a slow burn horror movie that builds some very intense moments until it's nerve racking climax. It's a fear inducing horror film that doesn't rely on Gore but instead relies solely on building tension and fear as you follow the star through his horrifying experience as a single father trying to protect his child from the horrors that await him. This wasn't a masterpiece but, it is a film that you'll remember watching.

The more that fright-flick conventions take over, the more the movie's recognizable and resonant human fears are dulled.

This movie had potential and it has a lot of strong elements, such as camera work and establishing mood, indicating this director should be one to watch in the future. However, it is extremely unoriginal on the plot front. It reminds a lot of 2010's Heartless with Jim Sturgess but it is not nearly as good.
