Although this was about a Hungarian water-polo team, I was disappointed to find that it had few laughs and not so much as a cameo from Will Ferrell. Still, better than Balls of Fury, probably.

Engrossing film which encompasses the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and showcases the "blood in the water" 1956 Melbourne Olympic water polo match between Hungary and Russia. Hungary has an appalling history of oppression and this movie shows a touching human side to their tragic past.

A great telling of one of the more heinous acts in world history, and one of the more uplifting sports achievements in world history. In 1956 the USSR invaded, and quite ruthlessly conquered, Hungary. Almost simultaneously, the Hungarian water polo team defeating USSR in the Melbourne Olympic Games in a very spite-ridden match - the "Blood in the Water" match. Told from the perspective of a fictional member of the Hungarian water polo team, the plot is great and direction solid. No drifting, and you can feel the anger building up as the Soviets, and their Hungarian toadies, commit evil act after evil act. This makes the come-uppance of the water polo match even sweeter. Solid performances all round. Great movie for many reasons, not least being the historical lesson.

While certain events in this film have departed from reality (like most, if not all, films based on true events), this doesnâ??t diminish this films power and impact. The events in this film have largely fallen out of the conscious of the general public, apart from those who have a connection with the events, so it is good to have this moment in history brought to a wider audience. Do not let the fact that this is a foreign language film dissuade you from seeking it out-sincere acting and an engaging, if a little predictable at times, story make this a worthwhile film.

Arguably quite Hollywodised but still fairly enjoyable and quite interesting being that i was unaware of the event (did i learn anything during History at school?)
