A wildly meandering story of a ménage à trois works mostly due to its excellent cast, but its plot is not really that interesting.

A movie that will make sense to anyone who has been in an unhealthy relationship that just wouldn't die no matter what happened. Good acting and directing all around but what a pessimistic ending.

It's a hard movie of Sautet. And something doesn't really fit in here. It is it the time of the century. His judgement on Cesar is extremely harsh and unrealistic. Still, the music is great, the play of Montand and Schneider superb. But it gives a bad feeling somewere. Perhaps that is the reason this movie is so good.
