Incredible psychological horror film,,,a great example of lighting, shadow, acting and a good script making a better horror film that the cheap gore we get today.

This is a weird drama of thrill-chill caliber.

I first read about this film in the Stephen King book DANSE MACABRE. I immediately wanted to see the film. I first recorded it off public television one Saturday night. Then, I rented an old VHS, which I later purchased when the store went out of business. Finally, I bought the double feature DVD, which also featured the film's sequel, THE CURSE OF THE CAT PEOPLE. Well, the first time I saw this film, I was hooked. I absolutely adored it. To this day, I can't help but love this film. It has a beautiful leading lady (Simone Simon), an intruging story (she can't fall in love for fear of turning into a panther and killing the man she loves), and a definite atmospheric presentation. CAT PEOPLE is one of the best films I have ever seen, and I enjoy it even more with each viewing.

Really creepy movie. As always what you don't see is so much more unsettling.

An excellent old-school horror movie that implies more than it shows, and does so incredibly effectively. By letting the audience wonder about what is going on without spelling it out for them the filmmakers create a terrific sense of uncertainty and suspense that works on multiple levels. The performances are all good - not outstanding, but solid - and the leading lady Simone Simon does a fine job of making her character seem sinister without actually performing any explicitly sinister acts. The plot progression is swift and doesn't meander, and the conclusion leaves the viewer satisfied. A great movie, all around.
