It was a long time when I saw this movie and I watched it again on TV last night. I still think it's a good movie and finished with david bowie's song at the end, just perfect.

Schrader's most underrated film is a supremely stylish, sensual nightmare

An organic feeling horror remake but two things let this slide for being a remake: it was A) made in the 80's and B) directed by Paul Schrader. So in essence, it was made at a time when horror was blowing up left and right, mainstream or not and by a person who took care in the genre both as a film lover and film maker and the latter is what's been lacking lately with horror.

There is just something about this movie I really like. Bizarre, sexy, gory, so 80's horror movie. Another recommendation.
