Todd Haynes is an amazing director and this film is in the same vein as Far from Heaven. Based on a Patricia Highsmith novel about a housewife and shop girl who fall in love. It looks astounding from the lighting to costumes. Its extremely slow but overall watchable and Mara + Blanchett are compelling. Mara in particular blossoms throughout the film and Blanchett has a career best performance here. Its not going to be for everyone as its utterly cold but beguiling

this film is so beautifully shot it makes me hurt, the attention to detail to the time period, the wonderful direction of Todd Haynes, he blows me away. FAR FROM HEAVEN is one of my all time favorite Todd Haynes films. CAROL has now become a second favorite. And Rooney Mara, you are exquisite. Quite simply one of the best performances of the year. truly great film, and a great end.
