Bright Star (2009)

In 1818, high-spirited young Fanny Brawne finds herself increasingly intrigued by the handsome but aloof poet John Keats, who lives next door to her family friends the Dilkes. After reading a book of his poetry, she finds herself even more drawn to the taciturn Keats. Although he agrees to teach her about poetry, Keats cannot act on his reciprocated feelings for Fanny, since as a struggling poet he has no money to support a wife.

This was the most gorgeous movie I have seen since Marie Antoinette. So lush and amazing. It's such a perfect portrait of young love that I even forgot I was watching a period drama. The gorgeous little moments in the film kept my eyes glued to the screen and the acting kept me enthralled in the story.

Devastating and remarkable. Ben Whishaw and Abbie Cornish are going to be two of the brightest stars of their time. This was a phenomenal and well produced film. The costumes and set, the writing and the direction. From A-Z it was a fantastic effort all around. (Just a warning-- you might need a couple of Kleenx. It's a tearjerker)

Beautiful love story wonderfully portrayed by Ben Whishaw and Abbie Cornish. I love the costumes (early 1800's fashion) especially the big, ornate hats! Gut-wrenching scene at the end that I dare anyone not to shed a tear while watching. Well done.

i guess this is the ultimate mark of a great film...the screenplay and acting are so ideal and absolute, there is no need for any visual gloss or a soundtrack reeking of doom...it all seems to have come together as 'naturally as leaves to a tree', to quote Keats himself. :)
