Bright Star (2009)

In 1818, high-spirited young Fanny Brawne finds herself increasingly intrigued by the handsome but aloof poet John Keats, who lives next door to her family friends the Dilkes. After reading a book of his poetry, she finds herself even more drawn to the taciturn Keats. Although he agrees to teach her about poetry, Keats cannot act on his reciprocated feelings for Fanny, since as a struggling poet he has no money to support a wife.

A truly elegant film, filming the countryside in such a lyrical manner that it simply astonished me to see the seasons change. Campion has a masterpiece here. Such wonderful scenes of early 19-century life in England! Christmas Dinner alone was full of so many period details, games at the table, entertainment by guests, the beautiful sound of a men's choir, so many amusements we have forgotten about. "Bright Star" is love story handled with both delicacy and passion, totally believable. Heartbreaking in the last third. I wept. Some may find it slow at points, but I savored every minute.

I loved everything in this picture. Ben Whishaw is the perfect poet and Abbie is the girl we wanna be. I always though impossible love stories make the best movies... unforgettable.
