Probably my least favorite Scorsese film so far. Poor script and stale acting (especially the very first scene) can make it tough to sit through but Scorsese's directing keeps it interesting. Especially at the end.

A Bonnie and Clyde exploitation flick, one of Scorsese's earliest. At times gratuitous,formulaic, genius. You really do get the sense of a great director who hasn't yet found himself. Hershey is flat out sexy, I'll take her over Dunaway any time. The end scene is breathtaking.

This is what they used to call a "drive in" film--best enjoyed at a drive in where you could sit in the car, drink, make out and not necessarily pay that much attention to the film. Hershey is okay here but shows more flesh than star quality. Definitely more Corman and less Scorsese though the latter does have some fun in the final shootout.

Roger Corman produced Martin Scorsese's first studio film and it is seriously lacking in any hint of the brilliant filmmaker he would soon become. Like Francis Ford Coppola's first feature film, also for Corman, these are cheap exploitation films that were made to make money and not for the sake of film. This film was another attempt to cash in on the popularity of "Bonnie & Clyde" and features a good cast that includes Barbara Hershey, David Carradine, Bernie Casey, John Carradine and Victor Argo, but it's really just a competently made exploitation film. Even a Jack Hill exploitation film is more interesting that this, with is pretty surprising considering Scorsese's next film would be the brilliant "Mean Streets." Watch this film as a Samuel Z. Arkoff/Roger Corman film, not a Martin Scorsese film.
